From Local to Global- how best to position your business.

Presented by: Stephen M. Woods

President/CEO, TideSmart Global

Steve will challenge us, as Maine-based businesses, to leverage our location without being limited by it.

Today, economics continue to dominate both public discourse and corporate conversations – but the critical emotional forces underlying key transactions often go unnoticed. Steve Woods will discuss how successful business leaders are using transformative emotional connections to change the business paradigm – and increase profitability. Woods will also share insights about enhancing employee, vendor, stakeholder, customer and consumer relationships by leading key constituents through the Levels of Emotional Investment (LEI) and towards more profitable outcomes.

Stephen M. Woods is the President and CEO of TideSmart Global (TideSmart), headquartered in Falmouth, Maine. TideSmart is the parent organization to an industry-leading group of companies primarily focused on experiential marketing.

Woods brings over thirty years of experience on both the agency and client sides to his role as President/CEO of TideSmart.  emg3 – TideSmart’s flagship agency – is widely recognized as one of the best experiential agencies in the United States, earning national awards and industry accolades for exceptional strategy, creative delivery and operational expertise. Woods has leveraged these agency talents to build relationships with Wal-Mart, Olympus, Levi Strauss, McKesson, GlaxoSmithKline, Abbott Laboratories, Ace Hardware and many other noteworthy clients, establishing a reputation for innovation in the process.

Prior to forming TideSmart, Woods served as President of Pierce Promotions (Omnicom,) responsible for overseeing each of its component business units (Accounts, Operations, Creative Services and Business Development).  Since 1990, pierce has been an industry leader in event marketing, specializing in experiential consumer programs (mobile, mall, intercept, retail, etc.). During his tenure, Woods oversaw programming for Unilever, Coca-Cola USA, The Gillette Company, Sam’s Club, Pfizer and Kraft, among others.

Woods also served as Vice-President of Marketing/General Manager for ProServ.  At the time, ProServ was an industry leader in sports business, media, and grassroots consumer activation.  Woods was a certified player agent specializing in representing NBA and Major League Baseball clients.  In addition, for many years Woods served as the Tournament Director of the largest clay court tennis event in North America (The AT&T Challenge.)

Previous to these experiences, Woods served as a consumer marketing executive specializing in sports/events/entertainment management across agencies, brands and industries. As an Account Leader for McCann-Erickson for Coca-Cola Bottling – and later, when he was recruited to Coca-Cola USA -  Woods was responsible for directing various local, regional, and national sports/entertainment properties, working on both program development and retail execution.  While with Miller Brewing Company, Woods was responsible for agency management of regional event/sports sponsorships and retail integration.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Woods has demonstrated a passion for experiential marketing and sport/entertainment business. Woods spent a decade working as an Adjunct Professor of Sports/Entertainment Business with academic affiliations at four major universities. Woods has also appeared frequently as a commentator/industry expert/guest for various media outlets (USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, ESPN, CNN, HBO, MSNBC) on the subject. As a former nationally-distributed columnist with Knight-Ridder Tribune, and as a contributor to various industry periodicals and events, Woods enjoys writing, teaching, and speaking on these subjects in both academic and industry environments.

Together with his wife Katie and their three children, Woods lives in Yarmouth, Maine, where he has served in Town government in a number of leadership roles (Chairman, Yarmouth Planning Board; Town Councilor) and currently serves as the Chairman of the Yarmouth Town Council.
