Managing Workplace Safety & Risk with Medical Marijuana and Other Drugs

  • November 04, 2010
  • 7:30 AM - 10:30 AM
  • Jewett Hall Auditorium, UMA, Augusta
Maine’s NEW Medical Marijuana Law means new challenges for Maine’s businesses.

Employers NEED to know how to handle this change:
 Do you need to make policy changes?
 What about your Employee Handbook?
 How will you address Safety concerns?
 Must you accommodate medical marijuana users?

Your forklift operator has a workplace accident and reveals that he takes medical marijuana. Do you terminate him? Two employees return from break smelling of marijuana and exhibiting signs of impairment. You know that one is a registered user of medical marijuana. Do you treat them differently? Given Maine’s passage
of a medical marijuana law, employers will soon be facing these tricky situations. Your policies and practices must balance the need for workplace safety with the rights of employees under the new Maine law, as well as existing laws such as the ADA, FMLA and the Drug Free Workplace Act. This workshop is designed to offer practical insights on drugs in the workplace so you may be prepared to manage
these issues and avoid the threat of substantial liability.

OWNERS, BUSINESS LEADERS, HR PROFESSIONALS, ARE YOUR ORGANIZATIONS READY?

This FREE session is presented by
Maine Employment Attorney Peter Lowe &
President of CMA-Career Management Associates David Ciullo
