David A. Fields works with small consulting firms across the globe that are eager to accelerate growth, increase profit and create lifestyle-friendly practices. David and his team have guided consultancies ranging from one-person startups to independent, boutique firms, to the consulting divisions of some of the world’s largest companies.

David spent eight years with a boutique firm, rising to become a partner, then co-founded his own practice in 2005. Soon thereafter, David started a “general contractor” model in which clients hired Ascendant and he subcontracted the lion’s share of the work to other consultancies. Since that model forced him to sit on the vendor (a.k.a. consultant) side of the table and the buyer (a.k.a. client) side of the table, he learned boatloads about how to construct and sell consulting projects.

David’s first book, The Executive’s Guide to Consultants helped clients around the world do a better job of selecting consultants. His second book, The Irresistible Consultant’s Guide to Winning Clients is Amazon’s highest-rated book on the business of consulting released in the past 20 years.
